The Chaplaincy Service within DFES is available to all employees, volunteers and their respective families. This service is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 52 weeks a year. It is provided by the Salvation Army, under contract with DFES.
The support services include:
- Pastoral Care
- Dedication of Children
- Hospital visitations
- Support during illness of a member or member's family
- Support during times of grief, trauma or loss
The Chaplain is available 24 hours a day to provide understanding, support and compassion, no matter what religious beliefs are held by members. In the Pastoral Care area the Chaplain works with members to provide total care by ensuring spiritual and emotional wellbeing are given the same attention as physical health. Attending to the spiritual needs of members is of major importance to the Chaplain. Support is available to people of all faiths. The Chaplain is available to talk to members about any problems they may have or to just provide companionship during lonely situations. If a member is experiencing loneliness, depression or anxiety, the Chaplain is available for home or station visits. During times of grief, loss or distress the Chaplain is but a phone call away.
The Chaplain can help by:
- Coming alongside personnel and listening to them
- Offering a ministry of prayer and scripture
- Providing services of worship when and where necessary
- Giving counselling and care
- Referring on to other agencies if required
DEDICATION OF CHILDREN
Member's children may be dedicated, that is to say 'given back to God' in a simple ceremony as celebrated by the Salvation Army.
As a registered authorized celebrant and member of The Salvation Army, the Chaplain is authorised to celebrate weddings according to the rites of the Salvation Army.
The Chaplain is available to conduct funeral services of DFES personnel or immediate family members, providing support during the time of grief and bereavement.
The Chaplain will visit a member or his/her family whilst they are in hospital, or make contact with any member or member's family, upon request. The Chaplain will also make home visits, upon request, to members who have fallen ill but not in hospital.
As suggested in the Pastoral Care section, the Chaplain will assist the member or member's family with counselling on personal issues or advise if deeper counselling is deemed necessary.
