16/12/2012 - 2011 National Emergency Management Volunteers Summit
Chris Kin-Maung who is the Training Manager for the Metro SES Regional Operations Support Section advises that the third National Emergency Management Volunteers Summit was held in Canberra from 30-31 May 2011. The event was hosted by the Attorney‑General’s Department, in partnership with the Australian Emergency Management Volunteer Forum, and with the support of the Australian Taxation Office. In excess of four hundred volunteers, managers, and leaders from across the country attended the Summit to collaborate, share experiences, develop strategies and, importantly, to recognise the contribution of emergency management volunteers to Australian communities.
The slogan for the 2011 Summit was 'The Future is in our Hands' and the themes explored were Partnerships, Experiences and Solutions. The Summit coincided with the tenth anniversary of the United Nations’ International Year of Volunteers, and offered an exceptional opportunity to join the global effort to reinvigorate the spirit of volunteering.
The 2011 National Emergency Management Volunteers Summit report contains a summary of the keynote speakers presentations and a list of recommendations which emerged from issues identify by Summit participants. The recommendations will assist individuals, volunteer organisations, volunteer agencies and governments, in building a stronger emergency management volunteer sector and ultimately a more resilience Australia.
